Tribute to Buffy The Vampire Slayer

I have reached one and a half years of practice now, and it is time for another tribute. So, a month after attempting a cover of that haunting ‘Angel‘ theme tune, it felt time to attempt to pay tribute to the origin of it all, to pay tribute to the legendary Buffy The Vampire Slayer, by way of a cover of that classic theme tune originally by Nerf Herder!

Ah, happy memories come flooding back of the nineties. It is even true that once, whilst taking lunch in a cafe in London, I actually inadvertently over-heard an argument break out, between what looked like a GQ-looking finance executive and his lunch date: a rather attractive brunette, also smartly dressed, and in stark opposition to the gentleman’s standpoint on one particular topic of their lunch time conversation.

What were they discussing? …Buffy The Vampire Slayer!

Let me explain, I was minding my own business, eating a sandwich whilst I contemplated some decisions I was faced with in my life at the time, when suddenly my attention was hijacked by the ringtone of this chap’s mobile phone. Yes, you guessed it, it was that classic Buffy The Vampire Slayer theme tune. So, the chap does the decent thing, simply apologises and immediately just turns the phone off, so as not to interrupt their lunch. Before he even had the chance to put the phone in his briefcase though, the brunette had launched into an especially hostile cross-examination, questioning him as to the maturity of his ringtone and of his inclinations towards the legendary vampire slayer.

What followed was priceless.

No, he didn’t stake her, for fear she was a vampire. However, without hesitation and without any concern for wanting to appear in any way in a favourable light to this lady, the chap launched his own defensive attack, waging war with all the aplomb of someone who has no doubt whatsoever as to the superiority of their position. Long story short, I witnessed one of the most articulate PR campaigns ever fought, comprised simply of this chap eloquently extolling the virtues of Buffy, whilst slating this lady for even daring to question his affinity for such a cult series. I’m guessing it was the shock of his vociferous defense that lead to the lady’s utter silence. That silence seemed eternal at the time, so, I simply smiled, despite wanting to emphatically cheer or generally applaud Buffy’s knight in shining armour.

That’s the kind of cult following Buffy perpetuated, so, anecdotes aside, it is time to pay tribute to the legendary cult classic that is …Buffy The Vampire Slayer! And thank you eternally to Nerf Herder, for originally creating such an utterly fantastic tune.

Whilst my current level of ability on the guitar may not do this justice, I’m going to side-step the whole landmine of self-critique today, as I can’t emphasise enough how much this is just an amazing tune to be able to play! Yes, Buffy truly kicks ass!
